How To Repair Clay Sewer Pipe

  1. It ideally needs to be replaced.

    Is stack pipe cast iron.

Sometime you can cut out impairment dirt pipage with grinder & used a piece of plastic soil pipe with flex seal couplers to brand a repair.
Just, in your case space is tight, plus you take that cake of concrete around pipe, which things even more harder to admission.

  2. Cut pipe on ruby lines, might need to might cutting out larger section to give you some wiggle room.

  3. Hi there, thanks for the reply, yeah the stack is bandage iron, and then ideally I would have to dig back away from house and cut the pipe and then put a join in? Is a repair to the fissure itself not feasable? My hope was to excavate (advisedly) around the whole collar effectually make sure the only crack was at the top then fill/repair the crack and encase the articulation in a suitable concrete or is this unsuitable? I dont desire to take any chances as it's a soil pipe?
    Cheers
  4. Might be possible with GRP or some other suitable product, but I've plant it then crack somewhere else in the pipe.
Also digging out might too cause rest of pipage to break.
  5. Best to cutting it out as suggested. However if the concrete surrounding the cracked area is fairly crumbly you lot could effort carefully chipping away with a lump hammer and half inch cold chisel, and so make upward a box and cast a pocket-size block around the piping with a mix of 3 and 1 precipitous sand to cement. Have done this successfully on occasion, just make sure the 'joint' is well supported/stabilised
  6. Cheers guys,
If I was to cut the pipage would I not be able to leave the 'insert' office of piping (that which goes into the collar) intact and just remove the collar and part of the piping? Pitiful for poor terminology! The pipe that come out of the bottom of the concrete block at a 90 degree bending seems too short to cut away?

  7. Information technology is very difficult working from a photo & non seeing the bodily pipage.

Merely, looking at your second photo, the penny dropped:oops:,was besides early, demand coffee to role.:)

You are right, forgot to allow for the pipe insert into bell end, cut on furthest white line should give you plenty room for repair.

Possible might have to cutting fifty-fifty further back & use a shallow bend (you tin become adjustable bends) to allow you to get perfect alignment, all depend on pipe & it'due south angle coming from concrete block.

  8. Seal with silicone, cover with concrete, forget about it and get on with patio.
  9. That would exist my respond, Isitreally, dig effectually the cracked area, seal with silicone and then use it for a few days to make sure there's no leaks and then physical the whole area in.
  10. Temporary bodge.:)

Old school way may taken longer, only you know it unlikely leak.

  11. Information technology'll hardly be temporary if it'southward encased in concrete!
  12. Stixall FTW! :D
  13. Clear out the whole expanse of mud/dirt ... spray the whole lot downwardly with a hose, getting the internals of the crack as clean as possible ... let information technology dry out ... smear some sticks-similar-**** or something similar into the crack ... worry about it in the extremely unlikely effect that it ever poses a problem.
It'southward not a problem now, and so is even less likely to be a problem in the future.
The but adventure information technology presents now is that roots might discover their fashion into the pipe, simply if you seal information technology off well using to a higher place method, that'due south extremely unlikely to happen.
  14. I can see yous live and work in the "real earth" Rogerk!
  15. Hi

    Hi I'm a newbie

I'm so glad I came across this post. I did a similar thing. I'chiliad currently excavation a pond. All the same I've simply hit a 6 inch hole into a clay rain/ storm pipe. Would I need to employ flexiseals and pvc pipe or tin I cover the pigsty with hard bendy plastic & pond mastic ?
I'm concerned near bully it more if I endeavour to dig circular it.
Thanks for any communication in advance.

  18. Ideally I would say needs to be cut out and replaced unfortunately. A patch would work every bit a temporary measure out but is a flake of a bodge as a permanent job
